About the ARRA
The American Reinvestment and Recovery Act of 2009 was signed into law by President Obama in February 2009.
The Act has several goals including:
- To save and create more than 3.5 million jobs over the next two years;
- Develop a health records management system
- Stimulate the renewable energy industry and provide the capital over the next three years to eventually double domestic renewable energy capacity
- Weatherize 75 percent of federal building space and more than one million homes;
- Increase Pell Grants, increasing the maximum award level by $500, and providing a new higher education tax cut to nearly 4 million students;
- Invest in transportation;
- Tax Cuts;
- Require unprecedented levels of transparence, oversight, and accountability.
